My sister in law gives it to her kids and she says it's helped them a ton. They were terrible sleepers...always waking in the middle of the night. Now they routinely ask for it in the evening. It's worth a try!
Okay, so I had never heard of melatonin before, so I googled it. And I found this website to be very informative: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/site/c.huIXKjM0IxF/b.2421201/k.5FF7/Melatonin__The_Basic_Facts.htm
Personally, after reading about possible side effects and risks (even though it is a natural hormone), I would use this as a last resort...but that's just my opinion. :) Definitely do your research and form your opinion.
Maisie sounds a lot like Olivia! I'm always amazed at how all three of my children have such different, unique personalities.
Whoops! that link didn't post right. Just go to sleepfoundation.org and type in "melatonin" in the search field at the top of the page. There's a ton of good info on there!
Okay, seriously, I'm not trying to win the Starbuck's gift card. If you want, you can disqualify me from the contest so Jill doesn't accuse me of cheating when she loses. :)
I just wanted to say I left a comment on my blog for you in response to your comment, and realized I should have left it on your blog. So, I'm letting you know there's a comment on my blog for you. Make sense? Good!
Eddie and I both take melatonin regularly. I haven't taken it as much since Diego was born, but we both swear by it. I used to have a terrible time getting to sleep every night and with melatonin I was able to drift off to sleep soundly. I'm not a person who ever, and I mean ever, sleeps all night long without waking up at least once, but that's just me. Melatonin did reduce the number of times I woke up and really has helped both Eddie and I. I hadn't thought about giving it to kids. I do know you can buy it in liquid form and can give a really small dose that way. I usually always have taken a 3 mg tab, but they also sell 1 mg tabs.
My advice is to do your research and then ask Maisie's doctor.
Natural is always best. I suppose you didn't like my tranquilizer idea? I hear they're very effective.
I think you are such a good mom. You think about things before doing them, ask for advice and consider all of your options. Your girls sure are lucky to have you!
Melatonin only works to help you fall asleep, it doesn't keep you asleep, so if Maisie falls asleep on her own at night, it isn't what she needs. It also isn't something you can give for years on end, even though it's natural. One of my girls used it very successfully for many years, until our doctor said she had been on it long enough. Call me if you want to talk some more.
Ian takes it every night since we first discovered it. Our doctor said she would refer us to a sleep study at OHSU, but that they wouldn't see us unless we had tried Melatonin first. What does Miss Maisie do?
At DLTK.com you will find a plethora of kids' stuff - customize bingo games, coupons, chore lists, coloring sheets, cards etc Best I've ever seen and visited.
If you are wondering about my blog title - well, I was born in May, and my husband used to always call me flower in our "early days". I used to recite by memory Flower's famous speech in Bambi...
Besides that - I've got plenty to muse about...glad to finally have an outlet for my tales!

You might want to ask her doctor first....but I don't know anything about it.

Liz is cheating! Cheater!

I think I should win the gift card instead of Liz. She went MIA during all of August and September.
She can't just swoop in now and try to win! It's not fair.
